"The unconcsious mind records all 1001 little details the conscious mind neglects.”

John Grinder

My earliest memory of feeling inexplicable sadness dates back to when I was 8 years old. For those of us fortunate (yes im being sarcastic), to experience the heaviness of trying to drag around own body through what i can only describe as quicksand, will truley understand the struggle. We search, trying to find a rope to stop you from sinking in deeper. Nothing captures this feeling more accurately than Chester Bennington's words in 'Heavy' from the album One More Light. If you haven't heard it, i warn you, you will need tissues. When you're in the depths of depression, your body literally aches, but it's not the flu, your not 'sick', well you are but not in the way society really accepts. Depression steals your voice, making speaking to anyone almost impossible, and my personal favorite, (insert sarcasm), is the sense of 'impending doom,' constantly reminding me not to get too comfortable.

I truley beleive there is no one magic pill, no single therapy or treatment that is the holy grail for treating depression or any mental health condition, but there is one thing i do beleive one thing, that working from

The Subconsious is Key

The conscious mind acts as a gatekeeper, selecting and determining which thoughts, information, and experiences enter the subconscious mind. This aspect of our awareness enables us to reason, analyze, focus our attention, and deeply bury trauma in our subconscious, and this is where we see the negative impact on mind, body and spirit. While the conscious mind is selective, the subconscious mind absorbs everything, influencing our presence in relationships, life, our core beliefs, feelings, behaviors, habbits, and lifestyle really emphasising the significance and power of addressing trauma through the subconscious mind.

Why Conventional Methods as a Stand Alone Solution Fall Short

  • Surface-Level Exploration: Traditional therapy often focuses on cognitive and behavioral aspects, which may not delve deeply enough into the subconscious where trauma is stored.

  • Limited Engagement with Emotions: Some traditional approaches emphasise venting, where the client primarily talks through each session. While talking is beneficial, solely relying on this does not equip the client with tools to process intense emotions, resulting in unresolved feelings.

  • One-Size-Fits-All Approach: Traditional therapy is not always holistic and client centered and may not cater to the unique needs of each individual, particularly those with complex trauma backgrounds.

  • Difficulty Accessing Memories: Trauma can obstruct access to painful and distressing memories, complicating efforts to address these issues in a conventional therapeutic setting, which mainly engages the conscious mind.

  • Resistance to Change: Some individuals may feel resistant to traditional therapeutic techniques, which can hinder progress and healing.

Each of us is on a unique journey, and as we navigate through the complexities of life with depression and all the other mental health conditions out there, we are constantly evolving and transforming in ways that may not always be immediately apparent. The work never truly ends, it is a lifelong commitment that requires dedication, introspection, and a willingness to face both our strengths and weaknesses. The practices and techniqies i use in therapy are gateways to profound healing and self-awareness, and i am constantly witness to remarkable transformations, shifts and breakthroughs that affirm the power each practice. Each journey is unique, and the stories of resilience and empowerment that emerge are a testament to the incredible potential for healing that lies within each individual.
